Homeopathic Remedies For Use During Childbirth.
Aconite | For anxiety, distress, fear and restlessness before or during labour. |
Arnica | Arnica reduces exhaustion during labour, controls bleeding and swelling, it also encourages healing. Give after the birth to speed recovery and alleviate bruising. |
Calendula and Hypericum Tincture | Speeds up the wound-healing process, use a 10% dilution for bathing externally. |
Caulophyllum | A useful remedy to use in the first stage of labour to establish strong productive contractions. Use if contractions are slow or stopped completely due to exhaustion, however use only if needed where contractions are ineffective, spasmodic or weak. |
Cimicifugia | A similar remedy to Caulophyllum. Contractions may be painful, sharp and spasmodic, they may move from side to side or down the hips and thighs. The cervix remains closed and fails to dilate properly. |
Ipecacuanha | Helps labour pains, hot and cold sweats and constant nausea. For when bright red haemorrhaging is present. |
Kali Phos | Best taken between contractions, often needed for exhaustion. This remedy can be used throughout labour whenever energy is low and is useful for those attending also. |
Nat Mur | Useful where the birth is slow and a feeling of sadness prevails in the mother, when being sympathetic is not usually appreciated. |
Pulsatilla | Can be used up to the 36th week to encourage a breech or transverse baby to turn. Contractions are weak or stop, pains may be felt in the back. During the labour the patient may be weepy and want help needing lots of sympathy and company |
Taking Homeopathic Remedies
Try to tip the tablet into the lid then straight into the mouth, do not handle the tablets. Do not eat or drink tea / coffee or clean your teeth within 15 minutes of taking the remedy as these can all antidote homeopathic remedies.
The remedies can be repeated whilst they are helping but do not repeat until necessary. Stop dosing when symptom free. These remedies are designed to help during labour but they are not a substitute for the advice of your doctor or midwife.
